A lot of mobile carriers offer email to SMS gateways which you can use to forward regular text emails to mobile phones. What’s great about it is that some gateways allow you to do this for free and is available to the general public. You just have to know the phone number and the carrier of the receiver and you can start sending messages to their mobile phones. To start sending messages, you have to input your log-in details and open your email account. Go to the text window for composing new messages. In the address portion, type-in the recipient’s cell phone number and the carrier’s email domain. Verify with your carrier if you are unsure of the email domain. Write your message but make sure it won’t exceed 160 characters because longer messages may be cut off. By pressing the “send” button, your e-mail messages are now forwarded to the recipient’s cell phone as text messages.

What’s great about email SMS is that it’s very simple to use and it requires very minimal training. People are already familiar with email messaging and it’s very easy to add email SMS to your existing account. People should take advantage of this service because it connects you to family, friends and business contacts whenever you need to send an important text message.

Today, different approaches of sending and getting SMS messages to and from people exist. In the message setting list of your handset, you’ll find the choice of sending text messages as email, fax and other formats. The system clearly allows clients to send and receive emails by way of SMS. Generally, you can’t send a direct email-from-mobile communication via SMS since you have to send it to a particular gateway that will convert the text message to email format and that’s what the special email addresses are here for. Many network providers offer a particular email address which you can use to send out emails via SMS to a recipient. It’s the simplest option and you may receive email via this service at no cost or at a price. You can even pick a name and obtain an address by signing up with an email delivery system akin to the method used by web fax services. The particularly formatted email addresses that carriers such as Verizon and AT&T provide are in their own format. You can replace the user’s email address with the special SMS one.

Owing to the limitation of the service, you can merely send the first 160 characters of each email. The recipient can therefore access and read the email through the computer and reply. The response is equally modified into a data format that is sent to the handset and that the device can display. Also, there’s no real standard about what the message will look like the moment it’s received. In the main, this type of SMS service carries restriction yet it can’t be dismissed that this is one important wireless innovation and an existing application choice of giant sites such as Google and Facebook.
